Hi, I'm Jill Blanchar.

I am a photographer based in Western North Carolina. I photograph events, sports, organizations, and documentary projects here and beyond.

I've always been interested in people. The things that bring them together, what matters to them, and the moments that reveal something true. That curiosity is at the heart of my photography.

At an event, I am watching for the reaction across the room as well as the moment on stage. At a sporting event, I am looking for determination, encouragement, and joy alongside the action. When I work with an organization, I want to show the people and purpose behind its mission.

What it's like to work with me

You can expect me to be prepared, adaptable, and easy to work with. I take time to understand what matters to you and what you need the photographs to do, whether that's preserving a milestone, sharing an event, or helping people understand your work.

Once I'm there, I pay attention. I'll make the photographs you know you need and I'll look for the moments you couldn't have planned.

The path that brought me here:

Before becoming a full-time photographer in 2021, I spent more than three decades working in technology. That career taught me to solve problems, stay calm when plans change, and take responsibility for the work people depend on me to deliver. I bring those habits to every assignment.

Photography gives me another avenue to do something I've always cared about which is documenting what is happening and why it matters. My work has taken me from local community events to documentary projects around the world. In every setting, I try to meet people with curiosity and respect.

I am a Professional Photography of America (PPA) Master of Photography and Certified Professional Photographer. I represented the United States on the Team USA at the 2024 World Photographic Cup and I was named North Carolina's PPA 2026 Photographer of the Year.

Outside of photography, you will often find me swimming, hiking, or spending time with my family and two dogs. Being active and curious about the world shapes how I see it through a camera.
